The Art Jam Science Park Fiesta, held on 27 September at Ascent at Singapore Science Park 1, was a dazzling celebration of creativity, culture, and camaraderie. Against the backdrop of verdant greenery and contemporary architecture, the Fiesta took centre stage, transforming the area into a vibrant canvas of artistic expression. With food and craft aplenty, the event provided an opportunity for the Singapore Science Park community to come together amidst their usual busy schedule.
At the core of the event were the beautiful benches on display. These benches are part of a longer-term programme to foster inclusivity and community engagement, and were designed by talents with disabilities to reflect their resilience, passion and creativity. Painted by more than 200 volunteers from the Singapore Science Park community together with 45 talents with disabilities, they seamlessly merged form and function serving as both functional seating and artistic installations. The benches provided a place for attendees to rest and admire the surroundings and showcased the deep connection between art and everyday life, emphasising the role of creativity in enhancing our urban environment while reminding us of the possibilities that arise from collective efforts.
The ambience was nothing short of tantalising as the aroma of delicious food wafted through the air. Attendees were treated to a diverse array of sumptuous dishes from various external food stalls and our F&B tenants, including Panda Skewer Co. and Kick Café, located at Ascent. Stalls peppered the area, effortlessly drawing in patrons with its captivating sizzles and enticing smells. Offerings included authentic Korean street food, delicious burgers, sweet Thai desserts and more. With such a wide variety, there was something to satisfy every palate, making it a gastronomic journey like no other.
After fueling up at the food street, participants were treated to lantern painting, adding a delightful nod to tradition into the creative mix. A sea of lanterns, each a unique expression of artistry, infused the atmosphere with a warm, festive glow as participants of all ages lent their brushstrokes to intricate designs. These hand-painted lanterns became not only works of art but also cherished mementos of the day.
As daylight dimmed, attendees had the chance to explore yet another avenue of artistry— mooncake coaster making. Participants hand-painted these ornate mooncake coasters using the provided materials, bringing them to life. This hands-on activity blended artistic flair with functionality, paying homage to the impending Mid-Autumn Festival.
The entertainment didn't stop there. The festivities continued with a talented DJ, setting the vibe with groovy beats that had attendees dancing and tapping their feet. To add a lively touch, a two-piece band serenaded the crowd with their melodious tunes, creating an enchanting atmosphere that was as captivating as the art itself. Amidst the ambient melodies and captivating artwork, attendees let loose and unwound, engaging in intimate conversations over delectable cuisine and fine beverages. As the last strokes of paint were applied and the final notes of music hung in the air, attendees left with their hearts full of inspiration and their bellies content.
Art Jam Science Park Fiesta was a blend of art, culture, and creativity into an unforgettable experience. It was a celebration not just of art, but of community and culture. It served as a testament to the boundless nature of artistic expression. From the creative buzz of the lantern painting and mooncake coaster-making sessions to the irresistible culinary offerings and infectious musical rhythms, it was definitely a day to remember.
